A home child care provider, also known as an in-home caregiver or child care home provider is a person who provides care for other people’s children at their own homes. Thus, parents drop their child/children at the child care home provider’s residence when leaving home for work, occasion, or any place whatsoever. However, parents return to the home child care provider’s residence while on their way home in order to pick their child/children.
Besides, knowing the child care provider job description is necessary if you are willing to take care of other people’s children in Canada. Your responsibilities are to attend to all the child’s needs like food, entertainment, etc. You also need to ensure that the child maintains good hygiene at all times.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) make use of two 2 pilot programs, which enables foreign nationals to work as a home child care provider, as well as to live permanently in Canada. These pilot programs include:
- The child care provider pilot program
- The home support worker pilot program.
These two pilot programs allow foreign nationals to stay permanently in Canada as soon they get at least 24 months or 2 years of eligible Canadian work experience. - ECA report was issued to you at least the same day that the agency was assigned by IRCC to issue ECAs.
- Education certificate is authentic and is equal to a Canadian 1-year post-secondary education credential.
- ECA report was issued to you not more than five years ago from the date on the ECA receipt.
Eligible Canadian work experience requirements
You must possess a minimum of 24 months or 2 years of eligible Canadian work experience. As an alternative, you must have a job offer from someone in Canada who wants to employ you as a home child care provider. You also need to prove your capabilities to take care of the person’s child. Evaluation will be carried out on your eligible Canadian work experience after applying for a Canadian permanent residency or subsequently to the receipt of your job-restricted open work permit.
However, you are required to present proof of eligible Canadian work experience attained 36 months before applying for your permanent residency. This qualifies you for a Canadian job-restricted open work permit. Your work experience must also be relevant to the NOC requirement. Additionally, you must possess a valid Canadian Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) when you were working to gather your Canadian work experience.
Eligible occupation for Canadian work experience requirement of Home Child Care Provider Pilot program includes:
- Having eligible Canadian full-time work experience, This means that you must have previously done a paid job under NOC 4411 for a minimum of 30 hours weekly. Besides, you are required to have worked as a home child care provider to children below eighteen (18) years old. It does not matter if you cared for the child in your residence or not.
If you don’t have an eligible Canadian work experience,
You are only entitled to a job-specific open work permit if you met other conditions but do not have up to 24 months of eligible Canadian work experience. Thus, you need to prove that you possess a minimum of 24 months approved Canadian full-time work experience not more than 36 months after receiving the job-specific open work permit.
But if you are unable to provide an eligible Canadian work experience of 24 months, you have only one option, which is to provide a job offer. You cannot just submit any kind of job offer to apply for your Canadian permanent residency through the Home Child Care Provider Pilot program. Hence, your job offer must satisfy the following requirements to apply through the program.
- The job offer must be issued to you by a person who is willing to hire your service in Canada. More so, your job offer may include two names such as Mr. and Mrs.
- Your home child care provider job description must be featured on the job offer issued to you by the Canadian employer. The job description must also act in line with the National Occupational Classification (NOC) 4411 lead statement.
- The job offer must require you to work only as a home child care provider.
- The job offer must be authentic just in case you are issued a Canadian job-specific open work permit.
- Your Canadian employer must not be an embassy, high commission, or consulate.The job offer must also include that your Canadian employer wants you to work in another Canadian province or territory other than Quebec.
- It must be a full-time paid job not less than 30 hours/week. Seasonal jobs are not accepted.
Proof of English or French language skills requirement
Home Care Provider Pilot program requires applicants to demonstrate reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English or French language. You can accomplish this requirement by partaking in an accepted proof of language proficiency test. Hence, you can submit a valid test result of any of the following language proficiency tests.
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP)
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- Test de connaissance du français pour le Canada (TCF Canada)
- Test d’évaluation de français pour le Canada (TEF Canada).
