Visit Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is undoubtedly the most famous landmark in Canada. These spectacular waterfalls are situated in Ontario on the border of Canada and the US. So you can visit the falls whether you’re studying in Canada or the US. Three beautiful falls, two American and one Canadian, mark the point at which the Niagara River descends over the Niagara Escarpment. If you want, you can even take the maid of the Mist boat tour which takes you beneath the falls for some spectacular views.
Go to a hockey game
Widely considered as Canada’s official national pastime, modern ice hockey originated in Canada, specifically in Montreal, during the 19th century. Attending a hockey game whilst you’re studying in Canada will give you a real sense of Canadian culture! It’s played all over Canada so you won’t find it hard to get to a game.
Take a walk around Stanley Park
This 405-hectare public park is in Vancouver and is actually a bigger park than New York’s Central Park. Not only is it simply a beautiful park to explore, it contains forest trails, beaches, lakes, children’s play areas, and the Vancouver Aquarium. The park is also home to North America’s largest urban, great blue heron colony.
Try some Canadian maple syrup
Maple syrup is an iconic part of Canadian culture, so much so that they have the maple leaf in their flag. And in fact, Quebec in Canada produces 70% of the world’s maple syrup supply. You’ll be able to walk into any cafe in Canada and order a plate of pancakes with maple syrup – it’s a must-try whilst you’re there.
Marvel at the Notre-Dame Basilica
One of the most beautiful architectural buildings in Montreal the Notre-Dame Basilica is simply spectacular. This amazing church is stepped in rich religious history and was first built in 1823.
Ski on Whistler Mountain
If you’re into winter sports, a ski trip on Whistler Mountain is a thrilling experience. With stunning views, beautiful resorts and great slopes, Whistler Mountain is a brilliant place to ski in British Columbia.
Eat some Poutine
Poutine is another Canadian dish that you have to try whilst you’re in Canada. It consists of french fries, cheese curds and gravy. Whilst it may seem a little strange, it’s a much-loved dish in Canada and it’s well worth a try.
See Peyto Lake
Peyto Lake is a glacier-fed lake which is part of Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies. Visitors can’t help but comment on the stunning views. Rock flour flows into the lake which makes it glow a bright turquoise colour. Many visitors hike to bow summit to get the very best view of the lake.
